Part 2: Making the buttons
and other graphics
Remember to save as a psp file
often!
1. Open the first saved
file (GFBtemplate.psp).
2. In the Layer Palette,
click on the eye glasses for Layer 1 to hide that layer.
3. In the left tool bar,
choose the magic wand, set to tolerance = 0, feather = 0, and click on
the background layer in the Layer Palette. Then with the magic wand
click on the outside of the gold bar.
4. In the top tool bar,
click Selections--Modify--Expand 2 pixels.
5. In the Layer Pallette, click
on Layer 1 to activate it. Click the delete button on the keyboard.
Your background should disappear outside of the gold border. In Top
Layer, click Layers--Merge--Merge Visible.
6. Press Shift + D (same
time) to make a copy. Press Shift + D again so that you have 3 copies.
Minimize two of them.
7. Now working with one
copy. In Top Layer, click Image--Resize. Make sure that
maintain aspect ratio (at bottom) of Resize box is checked. At top
of the box, check Pixel size, and type 400 in the width. Click Ok.
8. This is your Splash/Welcome
box. From the left tool bar choose the text tool. In the Tool
Options box, change the line width to 5. Left-click inside the welcome
box. Choose a font and a size that you want to use for the box.
Change the stroke color to null, and the fill color to white, and type
a title. Make sure that floating and antialias are checked.
Click ok. Move the text to where you want it. Keep selected!
9. In top tool bar, click Effects--Plug
in Filters--Ulead--Art Texture. Click Edit, Click on Image #5 (gold),
Click ok. Click on Image 5-6 (last one in second row). click
ok. Keep selected!
10. In top tool bar, click
Effects--3D Effects--Inner Bevel. Apply these settings: Bevel
= pie shape, width=14, smoothness=15, depth=12, ambience=0, shininess=0,
color=white, angle=315, intensity=38, elevation =30. Click ok. In
top Tool bar click selections–none. Change your background color
to black. Click File-Export as a gif. Click save, and
save the file as welcome.gif. (Remember to use the Export as a gif
everytime you have parts of your graphic that is transparent).
11. Close the welcome graphic,
and restore one of your copies from the bottom of your work table. In
Top Layer, click Image--Resize. Make sure that maintain aspect
ratio (at bottom) of Resize box is checked. At top of the box, check
Pixel size, and type 250 in the width. Click Ok. In top tool
bar, click Effects--Sharpen--Sharpen. Press Shift + D to make a copy.
12. In the Tool Options
box, change the line width to 5. Left-click inside the box.
Choose a font and a size that you want to use for the box. Change
the stroke color to null, and the fill color to white, and type Guest Book.
Make sure that floating and antialias are checked. Click ok.
Move the text to where you want it. Keep selected! Apply the
Art Texture gold Plugin. Apply the same Inner Bevel as before (#10).
Make your background color black. Click File--Export--as a GIF.
Save as GB.gif
13. Click on the second
image of this size to activate it. In the Tool Options box, change
the line width to 5. Left-click inside the box. Choose a font
and a size that you want to use for the box. Change the stroke color
to null, and the fill color to white, and type set by (your name/site).
Make sure that floating and antialias are checked. Click ok.
Move the text to where you want it. Keep selected! Apply the
Art Texture gold Plugin. Apply the same Inner Bevel as before (#10).
Make your background color black. Click File--Export--as a GIF.
Save as own.gif
14. In Top Layer, click
Image--Resize. Make sure that maintain aspect ratio (at bottom)
of Resize box is checked. At top of the box, check Pixel size, and
type 250 in the width. Click Ok. In top tool bar, click Effects--Sharpen--Sharpen.
15. Click File--Save as.
Save as blankbutton.psp. Make sure you are saving this as a Paint
Shop Pro file. This will be a blank button template, in case that
later you decide you need more buttons. *S*
16. Now Press Shift + D
to make a copy of the blank button. Make as many copies as buttons
you will need. I made 3-- email, home, and Tutorial index.
17. Working with one
of the copies, In the Tool Options box, change the line width to 5.
Left-click inside the box. Choose a font and a size that you want
to use for the box. Change the stroke color to null, and the fill
color to white, and type set by (your name/site). Make sure that
floating and antialias are checked. Click ok. Move the text
to where you want it. Keep selected! Apply the Art Texture
gold Plugin. Apply the same Inner Bevel as before (#10). Make
your background color black. Click File--Export--as a GIF.
Save as own.gif.
18. Repeat #17 until you
have made all the buttons you wish to make!
19. Open a new image:
400 x 8, resolution= 72,000, transparent background, 16.7 million colors.
20. Change your foreground
color to white, and flood fill this image.
21. Apply the same Art
Texture gold plugin and the same Inner Bevel.
22. Click File--Export--asa
Gif. Save as bar.gif.
And there you have it!
