This tutorial was created for some friends of mine who wanted to begin learning more about PSP.  It is intended for beginners to learn how to work with tubes, fonts, and plugins.  If you have any questions, please feel free to email me.

You will also need the Eye Candy Glass Filter (version 3.1 or 4000).  This is optional.

To do this tutorial you will also need Paint Shop Pro.  I used Paint Shop Pro 7.0.  You may download a free trial at Jasc.

Remember to save as a psp file often!

Before we begin, you might want to study the PSP tool bars.  I have labeled the tools on another page.  Click on the link and it will open a new page.  You may want to keep this page open while you work on the tutorial, to refer to the names now and then.  PSP Tools

Now that you have studied the tools, let's begin!

1.  Click New File in the top menu bar.  Enter these settings:  width=300, Height=300, Resolution=72.000 pixels/inch, Backround Color= transparent, image type=16.7 Million Colors (24 Bits).  Click Ok.

2.  Choose background color to be whatever color you want to draw your egg.  Your color can also be a gradient or pattern.  Set your foreground/stroke color to null.  In the left tool menu, click on the preset shapes tool.  In the Tool Options box choose the ellipse preset shape, check anti-alias, check Draw as Vector, line width=1, line style = single line.

3.  Draw an ellipse for the size you want your egg to be.

4.  Hold down the ctrl button on the keyboard, and move the mouse over one of the lower handles (square). You should see a trapezoid shape.  Hold the left mouse button down and drag  the bottom of the egg out just a little (about a square width or two).

5.  Hold down the ctrl button and move the mouse over one of the upper handles to get the trapezoid shape again.  Drag the handle in to pinch the top.  When done, your ellipse should look like an egg.  See the image below.

6.  In Layer Palette, right-click on vector layer and choose convert to raster layer.

1.  Adding Shadow

1b.  In top menu, click Effects--3D Effects--Drop Shadow.  Apply these settings: 
Vertical= -9, Horizontal = 9, Opacity = 60, Blur = 34.6, and color = a darker shade of the color of your egg (or black).  Click OK.

1c.  On the same layer, apply a second drop shadow, using these settings:
Vertical = 1, Horizontal = 1, Opacity = 60, Blur = 12.3, Color same as in Step 1b.

1e.  In top menu, click Selections--none.  Click Layers--merge--merge visible.  Save the egg as a .psp file for later use.  *S*

2.  Glass Eggs
The first egg uses Eye Candy 3.1  Glass filter.
The second egg uses Eye Candy 4000 Glass filter. 
Both started with the same base color.

2b.  In top menu, click Selections--Effects--Plugins--Eye Candy 3.1--Glass.  Apply these settings:  Bevel width = 65, bevel shape = button, flaw spacing = 83, flaw thickness = 12, opacity = 34, refraction = 32, color = white, highlight brightness = 100, highlight sharpness = 40, direction = 94, inclination = 52.  (Skip to step 2c)

OR Choose Effects--Plugins--Eye Candy 4000--Glass.  Apply these settings:  bevel width = 59.73, smoothness = 48, check inside marquee, edge darkening = -1, gradient shading = 28, refraction = 31, opacity = 55, tinting = 46, glass color = white.  Click on the bevel Profiles tab, and choose button .  Click OK

2c.  Save egg as .psp file for later use!
 

3.  Sandstone Finish
If you like the shadow effects, this is a little easier.

3a.  Starting with the selected image from Step 7, Part One, Go to Selections--Invert so that the egg is selected.

3b.  In top menu, click  Effects--Texture--Sandstone, and apply these settings:
Blur = 100, Detail = 5, luminence= 10, Angle = 0, Color= Your choice.  Experiment with colors and see which shadows you like best.  Click Ok.

3c.  Save egg as .psp file for later use!
 

And there you have it.  Your own Egg Factory!
